Personal Biography
Avia's parents met in Starfleet
eighteen years before Avia was born. Her mother, an Engineer and her father,
a Doctor, both on the USS Leonardo, married a year later in a traditional
Betazoid wedding. Rueben, born three years later, lived with his parents
aboard the ship until he turned thirteen. The family transferred to a planetary
base on Betazed, and the couple decided to have more children. Two years
later, Avia became their second child and first daughter.
A few months after Avia
turned three, Rueben met a Bajoran woman named Riss. Somehow, her parents
managed to escape the Occupation years earlier. Having lived a hard life,
she was nevertheless pretty, intelligent and spirited. She swept him off
his feet. They married, and moved to a small colony as near to Bajor as
they could get without being there. At the beginning, the couple worked
hard to get aid to the Bajorans on Bajor. However, after their first son,
Eban, was born Rueben and Riss worked for a quiet life and had a son named
Eban. Both were involved in the resistance movement, and they were murdered,
all three of them, presumably by a Cardassian agent. The news was hard
on the family. Avia's brothers, identical twins Asher and Isaac, were born
a year after he left, and never met him.
Shortly before they received
the news, her father had just received a posting aboard the USS Dartmouth.
The three children moved there, and two years later, her brother David
was born. They spent most of their time aboard the USS Dartmouth, until
Avia went to Starfleet.
Her brothers Asher and
Isaac both attended Starfleet Academy. Isaac graduated near the top of
his class, and was immediately posted to the USS Explorer, where he remains
the Chief Medical Officer. Asher left the Academy during the clash with
the Maquis, joining up with the renegade group. It was a huge shock to
the family, especially Isaac, though they'd all been aware of the differences
between the two boys. A year after Avia graduated from the Academy, the
family lost all contact with him. The only news they have received about
him was through First Lieutenant Bryant, who served with him in the Maquis.
David didn't follow in the family "business" as such, but has distinguished
himself in his own way. By the time he was eighteen, he had won several
writing awards, and was becoming well known in several literary circles.
He is now one of three hundred Writers Universe Scholars that split their
time between Vulcan and Earth, writing and lecturing on various topics.
He is also talking about becoming involved in Starfleet's diplomatic corps.
Starfleet Record
Avia started out in Medical
at Starfleet, due to the wishes of her father. After two years, Avia switched
Engineering because she was much more interested and much more talented
in that field. She found that not only was she unskilled at medicine, she
also didn't like watching people hurt, even if she could help them. She
spent the next three years in Engineering, and then went on her senior
cruise aboard the USS Flemming, a small science vessel that was in desperate
need of an engineering officer. She left after a year, and was assigned
to the USS Marquesas as an Ensign.
Avia served under three
Captains, Captain Wit Pazaar, Captain Maarek Stele and Captain Kharn. She
moved steadily up in the ranks, and became Chief Engineer for over a year
and a half. After Maarek left, Avia was acting executive officer until
then Commander Kharn transferred to the Marquesas. Once Maarek left and
Kharn became captain, Avia became acting executive officer for about four
months until she was officially promoted to Executive Officer of the USS
Marquesas. She was promoted to Captain a year later, and became captain
of the USS Eclipse, and eight months after that she took command of the
USS Potemkin after the departure of their Captain.
