Personal History.

FATHER:  Cmdr.  Robert M. Hawks (Starfleet Ret.)
MOTHER:  Calley Hawks. (professor of Geology.  Univ. of San Francisco)
BROTHER:  Robert Hawk, Jr.  (Starfleet Academy Cadet)

I was born in the Earth year of 2351.   As young children, when our father did return home from his missions, he would tell us of his adventures.  I believe it was the telling of his adventures of space travel, of visiting different worlds, and even battles with the Cardassians as well as a few Romulans that enthralled my brother and I to join Starfleet when we were old enough.   We did well in school through out our early years.  We even got to visit Vulcan once when our father took us on a small Starfleet transport for a visit with a Vulcan friend of his.  Boy, was it exciting.  I didn't realize Vulcan  Atmospheric temperature was that warm!  Anyway,  when I turned 18, I decided to enter the University of San Francisco, at my mothers urging.  She told me, since I liked to ply in the dirt and occasionally throw rocks, I should study Geology.  So now, instead of throwing rocks, I study them.
After four years of study, I received my degree in Geothermal and  Seismic Geology.   I took a year off after that to just travel a bit.  My father was getting ready to retire from Starfleet and mother was offered a professorship at the university.  So I signed up for a year to serve aboard a Vulcan freighter.  I am here to tell you that serving with Vulcans is an experience and a half, especially for a whole year.  I have logic running out my pointed little ears.  But it was good experience and I did get to visit many worlds.  It was during this period that I enjoyed piloting.  The Vulcan Commander,  Sub-Commander Sol.  taught me how to pilot the freighter, Sarak.  and for the last few months, I was made helmsman.  I was also taught Vulcan Martial Arts.
Its not quite as aggressive as those taught on Earth, but they are still very effective.  I finally completed my year aboard the
freighter and then applied for Starfleet Academy and was accepted a short while later.   After four years at the Academy,  I received my other degree in Helm/Navigation Operations.  My last year at the Academy was spent at the Command School as I wanted to someday command my own ship like my father did for many years.  A history of my Academy years and awards are described below.  Now, that I have graduated, I have been assigned  to serve aboard the
USS Potemkin, A Norway Class Starship, Commanded by Captain Winter.  I have been assigned as Assistant Helmsman.

   Starfleet Academy

After being accepted to Starfleet Academy, I made my mind up that one day I to, would eventually command a ship of my own, and therefor, decided that my studies and activities would lean toward that direction.  My first two years were pretty much devoted to my studies and to my new activity, Shotokan-Riu Martial-Arts.  The one thing I learned while serving aboard the Vulcan freighter and visiting other worlds, was that you need to know how to defend yourself.  So I took up this Japanese form of Self Defense.  I made it all the way to 3rd degree before I graduated from the Academy.   I took to learning how to operate and use the type 2 Phaser as well.  I enjoyed blasting drone targets and became pretty good at it. Good enough to receive a  commendation from my  Academy instructor for it.
At the start of my third year at the Academy, that's when I really started applying myself to the art of command.   I signed on to one of the Academies flying clubs.  On the week ends I was able to fly a small Academy shuttle to Mars or even to the outer planet of Pluto.  But I really had a thrill when I was able to fly a 20th century airplane.  I think it was called a P-51?  It was an old 20th century American fighter plane use in Earths World War 2.   That was fun.  I even was able to do what they back then called a Dogfight.  At the beginning of my Senior year, I met a Klingon Cadet by the name of K'lor.  We became friends and he taught me the use of the Bat'leth.  K'lor and I spent many off duty hours in the holodecks doing simulated hand to hand tactics, both with and without weapons.  It was also at the beginning that I transferred to Command School.
Due to my experience as Helmsman with the Vulcans, I received my degree in Helm/Navigation at the end of my 3rd year.  During my third year, I also, studied Tactical and Security Operations as well.  I figured that a Captain should be proficient in many areas of Command.  It was during my fourth year that, Like all cadets, I did my Kobiashy Maru Scenario.  Like the Famous James Kirk, I tried to change the perameters of the program away from a no win situation.  I almost succeeded at it, but somehow, the Academy instructors found out and I ended up on probation for several months.
Starfleet is kind of funny though?  Even though I was put on probation, I was given a commendation for original thinking?  Not because I tried to change the scenario? But because of the way I went about it?  oh well,  go figure!   Finally, I graduated, 3rd in my class.
Graduation day came and with it, my orders to report to the USS Potemkin.
